Import & Sync: Get Trades In Without the Grind

Upload broker statements, paste from your broker, or connect via API. Import Wizard, transactions, and reports—so your trades flow into the right portfolio and your journal stays accurate.

TradeJournal.co Import & Sync: upload broker statements (Upload), copy/paste, or connect via API for 50+ brokers (API Sync). Manage transactions and import reports so trades land in the correct portfolio. Free tier includes file and copy/paste; paid plans include API broker import. Used by over 12,000 traders and by hedge funds for fund-level data.

Upload

Upload lets you bring in trades from broker statements (CSV, Excel, or similar) or paste directly from your broker’s trade history. You choose the target portfolio, and TradeJournal’s Import Wizard guides you through column mapping—symbol, date, quantity, price, side, commissions—so the data lands correctly in your trade list and analytics.

  • File upload — Drag and drop or select a file. Supported formats include CSV and common broker export formats. The wizard detects columns where possible and lets you map the rest.
  • Copy/paste — No file? Copy your broker’s trade table and paste. TradeJournal parses rows and columns so you can map and import in one go.
  • Portfolio assignment — Every import is assigned to a portfolio you select. So you can upload your day-trading statement to your “Day Trading” portfolio and your IRA statement to “IRA”—no mixing.

Upload and Import Wizard are available on all plans. They’re the fastest way to backfill history or add trades without typing each one.

API Sync

API Sync connects your broker account to TradeJournal so trades flow in automatically. No manual uploads or copy/paste—once connected, new fills sync into the portfolio you choose. TradeJournal supports 50+ brokers (and growing) for stocks, options, and crypto.

  • Automatic sync — New trades appear in your journal as they settle. Your Trades, Holdings, and Analytics stay current without daily uploads.
  • Secure connection — Broker connections use industry-standard OAuth or API credentials. You authorize the link; TradeJournal does not store your broker password.
  • Per-portfolio — Map each connected account to a portfolio (e.g., “Day” or “IRA”). Multi-account traders keep each book separate.

API Sync is available on paid plans (Monthly and Lifetime). If you’re on Free, you can still use Upload and copy/paste for a complete journal—compare plans to upgrade when you’re ready.

Transactions

When you upload or sync, raw broker data often arrives as transactions (individual fills or legs). TradeJournal lets you view and manage these so you can match them to trades, fix mapping errors, or handle corporate actions. A clear transactions view means you see what was imported, what’s pending, and what might need a manual tweak.

  • Import audit trail — See which transactions came from which upload or sync. Trace any trade back to its source.
  • Match and merge — Map transactions to round-trips or adjust splits when the broker’s format doesn’t match your journal structure. Keeps your analytics and holdings accurate.
  • Corrections — Fix symbol, date, or quantity when the broker data is wrong or ambiguous. Your journal stays the source of truth.

Transactions are part of the same Import & Sync workflow—whether you use Upload or API Sync. Clean transactions mean clean reports and reliable P&L.

Reports

Reports (import reports and status) show what was imported, what succeeded, and what failed or is pending. After an upload or sync, you can review the report to confirm row counts, errors, and which portfolio received the data. That visibility is essential for keeping your books correct and for tax and CPA review.

  • Import status — How many trades were created or updated, which lines had issues, and why. Fix mapping or data and re-import if needed.
  • Data export & backup — TradeJournal supports export and backup of your data. So your journal isn’t only in the cloud—you can keep a copy for records or migration. See platform features for details.

Reports round out the Import & Sync story: get data in (Upload or API), manage transactions, and use reports to verify and export. One workflow for a complete, audit-ready journal.
